Trash Talk Tuesday for 8/7/2018

Welcome back to your weekly “Trash Talk Tuesday” article, this week we want to bring your attention to another misconception in recycling and that is any plastic that is the color black. The reason that black colored plastic cannot be recycled in the state of Connecticut is because the machine that sorts the recyclables cannot properly scan black plastic” which can result in the plastic contaminating other recyclables such as glass. A common “black plastic” item is the microwavable food trays. If you eat food on these black plastic trays make sure to properly dispose them in the trash rather than the recycling bin.
